About me

Joaquín Piriz earned his degree in Biology at the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Following this, he completed his Ph.D. at the Autonomous University of Madrid. After a postdoctoral stage at the University of California, San Diego, he established his laboratory in Argentina, where he focused on studying the brain circuits that assign emotional value to stimuli.

At ACHUCARRO, his research group investigates how fear is learned and how it generalizes in non-threatening conditions. His research could provide valuable insights into understanding the physiological basis of mood-related disorders such as anxiety, depression, or post-traumatic stress.

Technically, his approaches include in vitro electrophysiology, in vivo calcium imaging, optogenetics, behavioral analysis, and modeling.
