Understanding the processes of memory formation requires a comprehensive exploration of neuro-astrocyte networks. While conventional genetic tools predominantly target neuronal activity, this session will introduce innovative methodologies, such as CaMPARIGFAP and Astro-Light, tailored to dissect active neuro-astrocytic circuits with spatio-temporal precision. Our recent data on the functional astrocytic circuitries in the Nucleus Accumbens (NAc) have unveiled specific ensembles linked to specific neuronal input. Furthermore, I will present results that reveal the capacity of learning-associated astrocytic ensembles to trigger memory recall, suggesting the pivotal role of astrocytic ensembles as repositories for memory storage. By presenting state-of-the-art techniques, this seminar aims to discuss the critical involvement of astrocytic ensembles in memory formation and expression.
