Achucarro, BC3 and BCAM celebrate the first edition of the Be Zientzia outreach event in Bilbao
On Friday 11 October, the Ensanche Building in Bilbao was the scene of the first edition of Be Zientzia, a science fair that brought together more than 150 primary and secondary school students from two schools in the city for a morning full of interactive activities and workshops designed to bring them closer to science in a fun and educational way.
Organised by the BERC centres of Bizkaia ACHUCARRO, BC3 and BCAM, this event has marked the beginning of a day full of surprises.
This first edition of Be Zientzia has had the enthusiastic participation of students and teachers, who have been able to enjoy a variety of activities ranging from statistics, calculation games, logical origami or the exploration of DNA (of a banana) and the calculation of its carbon footprint with ping pong balls.
The students have been able to learn about topics as diverse as climate change, the evolution of the brain in different animal species and mathematics through practical workshops given by leading researchers from the three organizing centers.
In addition, throughout the morning, Be Zientzia has welcomed Kontxi Claver, Councilor for Economic Development, Commerce, Employment and Tourism of the Bilbao City Council, and Javier Garcinuño, General Director of Bilbao Ekintza, who have had the opportunity to learn about the event, thus strengthening Bilbao’s commitment to science and innovation.
