Doctor of Medicine and Surgery (1994) from the UPV/EHU and Professor at the University (2001). Currently, Professor of «Human Anatomy» in the Medicine degree; and «Neurosciences» in two master’s degrees: Neurosciences; and Molecular Biology and Biomedicine.

His research interest is the molecular mechanisms involved in the death of neurons and glial cells in neurodegenerative diseases, multiple sclerosis and cerebral ischemia are studied with the aim of discovering new molecular targets against which to develop new drug therapies.
